[Talk] ‘Rubberwear for the office’: Vivienne Westwood

Hi all, I’ve got a great new talk coming up for Glen Eira libraries: very excited about this one, Dame Viv is such a fascinating designer.

From the website:

From humble beginnings as a working-class school teacher, the woman who would later become Dame Westwood began her fashion label in the ‘70s with husband (Sex Pistol’s manager), Malcolm McLaren – together they brought DIY, vintage and fetishwear into the mainstream, inventing punk fashion along the way.

Later, Westwood sought inspiration in Savile Row and British historical traditions of conspicuous consumption, producing her own tartans and modernising Victorian and Rococo fashion for a new age.

Dame Viv was, and is, a provocateur, who traded in shock and now focuses on sustainability and the planet we are leaving for our children.

Join Nicole Jenkins – fashion historian and author, for this illustrated presentation on one of the most significant and interesting fashion designers of our times.
