I’ve been looking forward to seeing this one for a while, a new exhibition to accompany the film “Women He’s Undressed”.
Winner of three Oscars® (for Some Like it Hot, An American in Paris and Les Girls) and designer of costumes for a staggering 295 films (including Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon), Orry-Kelly is one of Australia’s greatest, yet least-known, successes.
Born in Kiama, NSW, Orry made it huge in Hollywood, where he dressed the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis and Katharine Hepburn. Orry-Kelly: Dressing Hollywood is a free exhibition celebrating the life and work of this mega-talented man and includes rarely-seen costumes, sketches, production photos and more.
What: Orry-Kelly: Dressing Hollywood costume exhibition
When: Aug 18th to January 17th, 10am-5pm daily (closed Christmas Day)
Where: Austrlalian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square Melbourne
Cost: free! What could be better?
More information: see the official website. There’s also a great accompanying program including films.
