[Exhibition] Louis Kahan: Art, Theatre, Fashion

On now at the Hawthorn Town Hall Gallery.

Tailoring, fashion and costume design were crucial aspects of Louis Kahan’s journey as an artist. In Australia, Kahan contributed to a vibrant post-war arts scene where his experiences in art and tailoring in early twentieth-century Vienna and Paris influenced his later work.

This exhibition showcases an exciting artist who moved seamlessly across theatre, dress and illustration. It also provides the back story to one of Australia’s migrant artists; a little-known story that includes work with the great fashion houses and celebrities of early twentieth century Europe.

Co-curated with Laura Jocic in collaboration with the Kahan Collection, Melbourne.
