[Symposium] Marilyn Monroe at ACMI

Marilyn lovers, an exciting new event is coming up.

A symposium has come out of the the “Exhibiting Culture” program developed by LaTrobe university earlier in the year and I’ll be joining the academics on a panel to discuss “Matters of Performance”.

There are four sessions with different themes, the others are Prof. Lois Banners’s keynote speech, “Image, Identity, Icon” and “Property, Power, Profession”.

Professor Banner is the author of the most scholarly, authoritative and popular biography of Monroe, Marilyn: The Passion and the Paradox as well as her previous book, MM Personal and many journal and magazine articles on Monroe.

From the website:
Our interdisciplinary approach to the topic of Marilyn Monroe’s iconic status is unique. In this Symposium our intention is to go beyond nostalgia, to offer a genuinely contemporary perspective on performance, celebrity and artistic response, as well as to make Marilyn provocative for us in our times.

We are delighted to announce that our keynote speaker for this Symposium is the very distinguished teacher and writer, Professor Lois Banner.

This Symposium creates a further outcome for the research undertaken by ten La Trobe University academics from the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Commerce in preparation for the subject Exhibiting Culture: Marilyn, which ran at the Art Galleries in Bendigo and Albury in May 2016.

  1. You have Marilyn’s head on Madonna’s body as your main image and several other photoshops in your collage.

  2. Thanks for your comments ladies, I didn’t create the collage, am just sharing the event as I’m contributing to it. I agree that it contains photoshops, as do many images of MM.
