Apologies for all the fair and market announcements; I need to post some actual content soon to make up for them but I can’t help it if the calendar is quite busy at the moment!
The largest vintage fair in Melbourne is happening again – it’s only on twice a year and is the largest dedicated vintage market, in so far as it may not have as many stalls as some other fairs but you will find the most real antique, vintage and retro clothing from the last two centuries.
What: The Way We Wear Fair
When: 10-5pm Saturday June 19th and 10-4pm Sunday June 20th
Where: Williamstown Town Hall, Ferguson Street, Williamstown
Cost: Adult $12 Child (10+) $6 Family $30

The theme for this fair is “And the Bride Wore…” and there will be many vintage wedding gowns on display from Australian and UK collections.
The Way We Wear Fair has generously provided us some free tickets to give away to Circa readers. A contest is open to all who are able to visit the fair, and there are four double passes to be given away.
All you need to is comment to this post saying which is your favourite wedding gown from history and why? For example, perhaps you like Grace Kelly’s, or Queen Victoria’s or perhaps what Liz Taylor wore to marry Richard Burton – the first time. Or there is always Jean Harlow or for something bolder, Dita von Teese. I quite like the elegant silk dress Marilyn wore to marry Miller in 1956.

I love 1945 this wartime wedding dress and the story behind it: Suited Bride & Member of the Armed Forces – Connie & Jim Connie and Jim Newbury’s Wedding 1945
It’s a powder-blue silk suit with a stylish box-pleat jacket. Note the VERY uneven hem with hand stitching showing (maybe the dress was borrowed?). They look very happy!

For me, its Audrey Hepburn’s Fontana Sisters wedding dress of 1952. Not only is it an elegant and luxurious gown, but I love that the story of the dress is so bitter sweet:
In 1952, while filming “Roman Holiday†in Rome, Audrey Hepburn had this ivory satin wedding gown made for her by the Fontana Sisters. After she called off the wedding to James Hansen, she asked the Fontana Sisters to donate the dress to a young bride who couldn’t ordinarily afford to have such a luxury. The dress was given to Amabile Altobella, a poor Italian girl who wore it in her wedding to a farm worker. She then wrapped the dress in tissue paper and put it in her attic, where it stayed for decades. The dress obviously brought her luck- she and her husband stayed happily married and had 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren

While I adore the boldness of Dita von Teese’s wedding dress, I love the simplicity of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy http://www.bridalwave.tv/2007/05/iconic_bride_10.html – a simple slip, with her accessory being a smile. She looks radiant, comfortable and so very, very happy!
my favorite wedding dress would have to be my own grandmothers she was married in 1926 and had a beautiful classic 1920s style dress.I think that all brides look beautiful on there wedding day.
There are so many that have stood out for me but most of all was Claudette Colbert’s stunning dress in “It Happened One Night” (1934)
