[Talk] Fashion of the 1910s

Hi all, very excited to let you know about a wonderful new talk I have coming up next month:

One of the great transition periods in fashion, the 1910s begins with corseted Edwardian frou-frou and ends with the liberated and mannish 1920s. In between we explore the lush exoticism of the Ballets Russes, the restrictions of the hobble skirt, the high-waists of the ‘Titanic era’ and the huge social and cultural changes that came with The Great War: World War 1.

Fashion influences move forwards and backwards from Ancient Greece to Victorian, to arrive, finally, in the modern age – and our sartorial world would never be the same again. Join fashion historian and author Nicole Jenkins as we consider the creative impact of designers Paul Poiret, Coco Chanel, Mariano Fortuny and the Lady Duff Gordon (better known as Lucile). It’s a decade like no other.
