I’ve also got a few pics from the ‘House of Lucas’ exhibition that opened last week at Ballarat’s Gold Museum. Details of the exhibition here, on until March 2017.
There’s a nice mix of fashion with some great archival images including marketing and staff photos. I loved the cupboard, with drawers full of beautiful boxed Lucas lingerie and keep an eye out for the replica ‘Spectator’ Lucas magazines you can flick through with news snippets and pics, just like the ones given out to ‘Lucas Girls’ in the factory days.
A Lucas customer wore the dress in the foreground for her wedding in the ’50s and shortened the hem as styles changed.
These fabrics reminded me of this dress that I used to have.
Co-curator Amelia Marra. Sadly I didn’t get a pic of Snjez Cosic, the other curator. Well done, ladies! It’s great to see this much loved fashion label on display.
